Group Finance Manager

The opportunity:

We’re excited to be recruiting for this new position due to the rapid expansion of the Group.  We are now looking for a Group Finance Manager to support the next stage of the Group’s growth, driven both organically and through acquisition.  We are looking for someone with passion, drive and a desire to ‘make a difference’ and not just be pigeonholed into a ‘1-size fits all’ box.   You are likely to be happy in your current role but wondering if you are missing out and how to turbocharge the next phase of your career development.  We are looking for someone who is at least 7 years post qualified with an accounting qualification and is now looking to lead a team across several sites.

In this role you will have strategic and operational responsibility for  the Finance function and team of two; and to ensure the reliable, timely and accurate preparation of month end accounts. Working closely with the BU Managers, Finance Director, and Chairman the job holder is expected to direct the overall financial planning and accountancy practices across all Group companies.  

Responsibilities for cover all functions associated with running the Finance team.  Highlighted responsibilities include:

  • Overall responsibility for the preparation and allocation of monthly flash and management working accounts in accordance with the groups reporting policy.
  • Responsible for the preparation and monthly review of management accounts including review of variances and associated commentary, graphical representations, KPIs for Board and Bank purposes.
  • Responsible for cash management across the Group ie accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash disbursements and bank reconciliations (including depreciation, prepayments, accruals, and amortisation).
  • Tax compliance including the preparation of VAT returns and liaison with HMRC and tax advisors.
  • Initially responsible for supporting the implementation of Epicor (ERP system) to ensure management reporting from Epicor is transferred from Sage with minimal disruption.  The role will also require the development of reports and tools from Epicor to facilitate effective financial management of the Group.
  • The development and delivery of financial projects to support the growth and profitability of the Group.

What we’re looking for:

We are looking for an experienced Financial Manager / Controller or Financial Accounts:

  • Qualified with ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent.
  • Excellent working knowledge of a range of accounting systems with Sage experience preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office, specifically Excel
  • Excellent working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems
  • Experience of commercial input into business operations to influence wider decision making.
  • Experience of working across different scenarios/sites simultaneously with different teams and balancing the workload accordingly.

In this role you will be expected to:

  • Manage the full cycle from PID concept to detail design and specification of control systems for our expanding project portfolio.
  • Design the electrical controls, drives, sensors and network systems for special-purpose machinery for industries such as automotive, pharmaceutical, electrical, electronic, food and packaging.
  • Produce detailed wiring design drawings for both in-house and contract manufacturing work-packages.
  • Communicate directly with new and existing customers and suppliers and work seamlessly with our technical sales, project engineering, design, sourcing, manufacturing and installation teams.

What we’re looking for:

  • Degree qualified on a relevant subject (minimum HNC level)
  • Minimum 5 years working as a Control Systems/Electrical Engineer.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing electrical control systems panels and/or switchgear controls for production systems and equipment.
  • Proven ability to interpret customer specifications, implicit and explicit system requirements and hidden needs, to develop detail design solutions for automation projects.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent ability to work with minimal supervision and as a subject matter expert in multifunctional teams.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as and when required.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent numerical and verbal reasoning skills.
  • Proven ability to follow and apply best-practice in professional project management across both agile and waterfall methodologies.
  • Advanced CAD drawing software experience
  • IT systems and networking literacy
  • Basic programming skills in a popular software language (C/Python/Javascript)

  • Degree qualified in a relevant subject (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Aerospace, Manufacturing Systems etc)
  • A minimum, of 3 years’ experience working as a Project Engineer
  • Experience in any of the following areas is desirable: manufacturing systems, machinery and equipment, conveyor systems and associated equipment, walkways and automation is
  • Experience of working in/with the food industry is desirable
  • Experience of site supervision
  • Use of CAD (3D Inventor) is desirable
  • A clean driving licence is also required

  • Work as part of a small design team designing and detailing industrial access platforms, conveyor systems, and automation engineering solutions using 3D Inventor.
  • The work is varied as most of our systems are bespoke engineering solutions and will involve:
    • Site surveys involving measuring, sizing and scanning customer sites and installations.
    • Liaising with new and existing clients to understand their needs and present to them
    • Interpreting customer URS and designing solution systems at the concept level
    • Working with and supporting the technical sales managers and project engineers of our group.
    • Calculating the right size of components based on sound engineering principles, tolerances and “design for manufacture” and “design for assembly” best-practice.
    • Detailing and issuing technical drawing packages to facilitate in-house fabrication and assembly and external subcontractors’ manufacturing.
    • Creating parts lists and working closely with the procurement team to ensure accurate and timely availability of components.

What we’re looking for:

  • CAD Design Engineer
  • Degree qualified (HNC+) preferred
  • A minimum, of 5 years’ experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer
  • Experience of conveyor systems, automation systems, robotics, and special purpose machinery.
